Configure the PYNQ board (only once)

After flashing your SD card and before booting the PYNQ, we will first have to configure the PYNQ to boot from the image that is on the SD and to use the power that is provided by the USB connection.

Prerequisites

  1. A PYNQ-Z2 board.
  2. An SD card with the correct image.
  3. Optionally, a plugin module with a display.

Do not turn on your PYNQ yet!

Configure the USB-power jumper

Configure the power mode of the PYNQ by setting the boot jumper to the "USB" position. The jumper is the little black tab that can be placed either on the two leftmost (USB) pins or the two rightmost pins (REG).

Make sure the jumper makes proper contact!

Configure the SD jumper

Similar to the USB-power jumper, configure the boot mode of the PYNQ by setting the boot jumper to the "SD" position.

(Optional) Plug in the display module

If you have a display for the PYNQ then you should plug it into the Arduino headers on the board (see the image below). Since it is asymmetric it can be plugged in in only one way. Ensure that the pins are all the way in.

⚠️ Warning

Make sure to push on the green printed circuit board (PCB) and not on the screen when inserting it. The glass is fragile and will break!

Insert the SD card into the PYNQ, taking care of the orientation (as shown in the picture):

You should feel a click when you push it in.

You can always leave the SD card in the PYNQ board, but be careful that it's not pushed out accidentally during transport.

⚠️ Warning

Do not pull out the SD card. To remove the SD card, push it in: it will then click and come out.
